Chosen, Called, Consecrated: The YES of Sr. Benedict Alphonsa
January31, 2026 we rejoice in welcoming a new member into our spiritual family, Sr. Benedict Alphonsa made her profession, a moment that fills our hearts with gratitude and joy, reminding us, “What happiness for us to be a Little Sister of the Poor.”
Bishop Napoleon Balili Sipalay of the Alaminos Diocese was the main celebrant of the Eucharist, surrounded by 3 priests. In his homily, Bishop reflected on the distinction between religious profession and diocesan priestly ordination. He explained that ordination is made valid through the bishop’s laying on of hands, while in religious profession, the candidate extends their hands to receive the symbols of commitment, an offering of oneself as a total gift to the Church. Earlier, Bishop explained that the two-year novitiate is akin to the journeys of great figures in Scripture, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and St. Paul, who each passed through the desert. It is a time of scarcity, a sign of detachment, and a necessary path for spiritual growth.
Following the Mass, guests gathered in the auditorium for an important announcement. The Little Sisters, in particular, were eager to learn the destination of the newly professed. When the obedience of Sr. Benedict Alphonsa was revealed, the room erupted in thunderous applause. To everyone’s surprise, her mission would take her beyond the Province, across the ocean to Melbourne, Australia.
“May God’s grace guide our new Little Sister in serving Him with joy and love.
