VOCATION DAY CELEBRATION IN BATTICALOA.

Inspired by the words of Jesus, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few” (Mt 9:37), Vocation Day 2026 was celebrated on 22 August 2026 at the YMCA Hall, Thandawanveli, with more than 200 children participating. The event was organized by Fr. P. Suhanthan, Rector of St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary, with 14 religious congregations taking part.

The day began with a rally from the Cathedral to St. Joseph Vaz School, followed by a time of Eucharistic adoration. The programme included presentations about the different religious congregations, drama, dance, and an address by Fr. Suhanthan on the importance of vocation and the need to encourage young people to discern their calling to serve God.

The participating congregations shared their charisms, way of life, formation, and missions with the children. Our congregation highlighted our mission of caring for the elderly, together with our religious symbols and the life and spirituality of St. Jeanne Jugan. The children showed great interest, and many parents and teachers also visited our stall and prayed before the relics of St. Jeanne Jugan.

It was a fruitful and grace-filled day, giving us the opportunity to connect with more than 100 children, parents, and teachers and to sow seeds of vocation and faith in young hearts.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to Fr. P. Suhanthan for his meticulous organization and to everyone who supported the event through their prayers. May God bless these seeds and allow them to flourish wherever we go.

Blessed be God!
