St.Joseph Home for the Elderly
Bolinao Foundation

During our initial visit to the Philippines for the purpose of establishing a home, we were introduced to Mrs. Letty Abasamis through Dr. Maurice Teo.  Abasamis’s father agreed to grant a piece of land to the Little Sisters but, sadly, he passed away a month later. Nonetheless, the children remembered the father’s commitment, which ultimately led to our acquisition of three hectares of land in Bolinao for the foundation.

On the feast of the Sacred Heart in 2005, the Little Sisters received authorization from Bishop Jesus Cabrera of the Diocese of Alaminos, Pangasinan, to establish a second foundation in the Philippines. Subsequently, on April 5, 2006, a group of Little Sisters traveled from Manila for the groundbreaking ceremony of their future residence, dedicated to St. Joseph, which would serve as the future Novitiate under the patronage of St. Jeanne Jugan. By December 2007, the first group of Little Sisters arrived to prepare for the opening of the new home.

On April 8, 2008, the inauguration of the Home and Novitiate took place on a sunny morning. A torch was lit from the sanctuary lamp at San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish, which served as the flame for the ceremonial candles. The faithful participated in a candlelight procession from downhill to the home, led by Bishop Marlo Peralta and Mother Provincial Theresa Catherine. – A commemorative plaque was unveiled at the entrance of the home.

The bishop blessed the new Holy Water at the chapel entrance and entrusted its pastoral care to the Little Sisters, handing the keys to the Mother Superior. The Eucharistic celebration commenced, officiated by Bishop Peralta alongside seven other priests. The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a lunch in the auditorium.
