Home for the Elderly
Pasay City Foundation

It was in the year 1905 that we received the first invitation from the Apostolic Nuncio to come to the Philippines, but this was not realized. Another invitation came in 1988 from the late Jaime Cardinal Sin, again at the time we were unable to fulfill his request.

During the General chapter Meeting of 2002, it was decided that we should open a new foundation in the Philippines because of the already numerous Filipino vocations in the Congregation. After the decision was taken at the chapter, Mother General Celine de la Visitation wrote to His Eminence Cardinal Sin to ask if the invitation was still open and he replied, “As I have always expressed, you are very much welcome to establish “a community here. Manila is a rich harvest waiting for devoted and ardent workers of the Lord. “

In March of 2003, Mother General and the Vicar General met Mother Provincial Theresa Catherine, her assistant and Dr. Maurice Teo at the daughters of St. Paul compound in Pasay City. We must state here that we owe a great debt of gratitude to the Daughters of St. Paul who so warmly received us and gave us freely of their time and expertise not only on this initial visit but all the subsequent visits until our little community was established in January 2004, we look to them as our mentors.

The building plans had already been started as early as October 2003 and the groundbreaking ceremony took place in June 2004. So, in less than 18 months, the project was completed and the home, under the patronage of St. Lorenzo Ruiz, was in operation. This was due to the outstanding commitment and dedication of the Manila and Hongkong teams, spirited by our very devoted and close friend, Professor Maurice Teo, and Architects Eugenen Ferraris and Nestor Lena, Remus and Romulus Landoy and Associates who have certainly been and driving force behind this project, in 18 months the project was completed and in operation.

On the 17th of December 2005, was the official opening of our Home the first in the Philippines. The ceremony was officiated by the Archbishop of Manila, His Excellency Gaudencio B. Gonzales who is Bishop of Manila since 2003.
